Beekeepers of the Northern Shenandoah

A hardcopy of the revised proposal for the Program Application/ Agreement was handed out at the October 13th meeting.  After quite a lot of discussion, the members present unanimously voted to launch the proposal as written (with one minor change ) as a pilot for 2012.  The idea being that it was better to test the program as soon as possible and make modifications as we learn what needs to be altered for 2013.  The change, mentioned above, was made to allow applications to be received as late as December 1st, 2011.

BONS members, and others, are encouraged to promote the Scholarship Program to organizations and individuals in the counties of Fredrick, Clarke and Warren, and the City of Winchester.  Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18 by December 1st of the current year.

Two medium hives with all necessary equipment plus some basic beekeeping tools, clothing  and the Beekeeping Begineers Class are included.

One additional consideration that surfaced during the meeting was to have the applicants offer some form of community service in return for receiving the Scholarship.  We will work on that as we evaluate the applications to determine what level is suitable for the target age group.
