Woodenware & Equipment

There are many decisions to make on which beehive equipment to use – there are a host of choices.  Beekeepers differ as to which is best.

.

In this area, we recommend use of medium (Illinois) supers throughout your hive.  This offers several advantages, including

 > Flexibility – Frames can be universally shifted from box to box and from hive to hive.  This becomes a huge advantage as you develop as a beekeeper.

> Weight – Medium boxes are liftable by most adults.  They are about half as heavy when full of honey as a full deep box.  To lighten the weight further, you can elect to start with 8-frame equipment.

> Cost – Use of medium boxes generally reduces your costs from the traditional mix of deep and shallow boxes.

.

Building the equipment is easy but time consuming.  There are pointers to building it to last  – we talk about these in the below videos.
